Engineering Tools to Spread Happiness in the World

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Mo, is the former Chief Business Officer of Google X, and the author of Solve For Happy (translated into 28 languages). Mo’s mission was triggered after losing his son, Ali, due to a surgical error during a routine operation in 2014. In honor of Ali, Mo made it his life’s mission to share his engineering-model of happiness with the world.

His recent project, OneBillionHappy.org, is dedicated to spreading the message of happiness to a scientifically-minded, young, modern and global audience. They ask people to commit to a three-step process of gaining awareness about the importance of happiness, investing in their happiness by applying the tools found in Solve For Happy as well as in other valuable resources relating to the topic, and becoming messengers by sharing their insights with at least two people who will tell two people. Based on this exponential function, they aim to reach the goal of one billion people within the next five years. To date, the online resources for Solve For Happy have reached over hundred million people worldwide and close to hundred thousand people at live events.

Both Mo and Anahita lead workshops around the world, speak at conferences, and bring their insights into organizations at the forefront of innovation, technology and finance.

Anahita's company, Neural Beings, is rooted in Buddhist psychology and modern science, and offers a contemplative perspective to the topic of happiness. Her workshops are based on the Four Noble Truths, explained through the lens of modern science. She has brought the teachings of the Four Noble Truths to Wall Street firms and technology conferences, leveraging Mo’s platform, which he generously shares with her. Anahita also serve as Chief Mindfulness and Ethical Officer at a New York-based technology and investment firm.

Individually, and as a couple, Mo and Anahita dedicate their lives to alleviating suffering and spreading the tools for happiness.

To start this talk, we will experience a sound bath from certified Sound Therapist and Meditation Teacher, Sara Auster, and the talk will end with a meditation led by Thupten Phuntsok, Anahita's meditation partner, on "The Middle Way":  The Middle Way is a process of “living and making one’s mark on society while constantly interrogating one’s own actions to ensure that they accord with the path of humanity.” The Middle Way of reverence for the dignity and sanctity of life, making the welfare of people and the planet the starting point and final goal of every human endeavor, can provide a path forward.
